CBSE reschedules AIEEE exam

May 2, 2011
After preparing for the AIEEE examination for two long years, students from places across the country were treated to a nightmare on Sunday when the CBSE rescheduled it without giving any reason. With the CBSE helpline keeping mum on the subject, candidates had to wait for four harrowing hours — relying solely on television updates for information.

For Shweta Mathur, a resident of Anand Vihar, the centre was Guru Harkrishan Public School in Nanak Piao. “We entered the examination hall as per the schedule, and started writing it at 9.30 am. I had answered two questions when the invigilator announced that we are supposed to return the papers and leave as the exam has been postponed to 12 pm,” Mathur told Newsline.
No reasons were given, and students were simply asked to leave — leading to a chaotic situation. “We kept trying the CBSE helpline, and my mother even checked the AIEEE website from home. There was no information at all,” a visibly disgruntled Mathur said.

Kumar, who was supposed to leave for home by the Poorva Express at 4.20 pm, had to cancel his ticket. The exam will be held next week at the Kendriya Vidyalayas in Pushpa Vihar and Nariana. Shubhank Goyal, who appeared for the test at the National Victor Public School in East Delhi, had already left for home after his cousin in Pushpa Vihar told him that the exam had been cancelled. “But I came back after my mother called to say that some centres were holding the exam. She got the information from television,” Shubhank said. Though he reached back 15 minutes late, around 12.15 pm, he was allowed to enter.

Many also questioned the logic behind allotting exam centres far from their areas of residence. Sanjiv Sharma, a resident of Dwarka, was told to appear for the exam at National Victor Public School, Patparganj. “We had to come all the way from Dwarka. We do not know this area, and there are no shops nearby to even buy water,”said Sanjiv’s father, Ravinder.
